Founders
Massage Addicts is a collective of six women - Marjolein, Lucia, Rita, Marloes, Anya and Maria - based in Amsterdam. They first connected at ITM Thai Hand School during their training in Thai Yoga Massage but it didn't take long for them to discover a shared passion and purpose: to share the transformative experiences of Thai Yoga Massage and to propose moments that nurture the mind, body and spirit. Through their work in massage and holistic practices, they aim to foster wellbeing, personal growth, and deeper connection for all those they serve.
In the spring of 2024 they decided to collaborate and founded Massage Addicts, a series of curated workshops that blend Thai Yoga Massage with complementary practices, offering participants a deeper level of relaxation and wellbeing.
In their workshops, they often invite external collaborators to share their expertise and practices. The workshops range from sound healing and cacao ceremonies to experiential anatomy for movement, dream exploration, tantra, and retreats. Each founder brings her unique skills and characteristics, combining Thai Yoga Massage with other modalities. In addition to hosting the Massage Addicts workshops, all the founders continue to practice Thai Yoga Massage across Amsterdam.
The goal of Massage Addicts is to offer a series of curated moments that not only deepen relaxation but also promote body and mind healing, connection, and personal transformation for all participants.
Thai Yoga Massage
The origins of Thai Massage, known in Thailand as Nuad Thai, can be traced back to the ancient Indian healing system of Ayurveda, which dates back more than 5,000 years. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of balance between mind, body, and spirit and includes various massage techniques as part of its therapeutic practices.
Over time, Nuad Thai evolved into a unique practice that incorporates elements of traditional Chinese medicine, yoga, and Ayurveda. Practitioners use hands, thumbs, elbows, knees, and feet to apply acupressure, as well as perform various stretching movements and yoga-like postures. Recipients remain fully clothed during the massage and no oils are used.
Today Thai Yoga Massage is a widely practiced form of bodywork that emphasizes holistic healing and the importance of mind-body-spirit balance. In 2019 it became the first and only massage technique inscribed by UNESCO.
