When Nothing Can Be Fixed
Part 2 of The Embodied Therapist Series
Embodied Presence in the Face of Loss
An Experiential Online Training for Therapists
There are moments in therapy when nothing can be fixed.
A loved one has died.
A relationship has ended.
A diagnosis changes everything.
A future disappears.
A career comes to an unexpected end.
In these moments, clients do not need quick answers.
They need someone who can stay.
Someone who can remain present with grief, despair, uncertainty and silence.
Someone who does not rush to reassure, explain or create meaning.
Someone who trusts that presence itself can be profoundly healing.
Yet this is often one of the greatest challenges we face as therapists.
How do we remain connected when we feel helpless?
How do we tolerate intense emotions without trying to reduce them?
How do we stay grounded when nothing can be changed?
This experiential workshop explores one of the most fundamental therapeutic capacities:
The ability to remain embodied, emotionally present and relationally available when life cannot be made better.
Rather than focusing on therapeutic techniques, we will explore the therapist as the primary instrument of healing.
During this training you will explore
• Working with loss beyond bereavement—including relationship endings, illness, identity, work and major life transitions.
• Understanding how irreversible loss affects the body, emotions and nervous system.
• Recognising your own responses to grief, helplessness and uncertainty.
• Developing the capacity to tolerate intense emotions without rushing to regulate, reassure or change them.
• Understanding the difference between therapeutic presence and therapeutic action.
• Learning when presence is enough—and when intervention becomes appropriate.
• Deepening your embodied capacity to accompany clients through life's most difficult moments.
Throughout the day we will combine experiential exercises, demonstrations, reflection and discussion to strengthen your therapeutic presence and confidence in accompanying clients through irreversible change.
